Ground Source Heat Pump Installation Sustainable Heating Powered by the Earth

A ground source heat pump (GSHP) extracts heat stored in the ground through a network of buried pipes — either laid horizontally in trenches or drilled vertically in boreholes — and uses it to heat your home via underfloor heating or radiators. Because ground temperature remains relatively stable year-round at around 10–12°C, GSHPs are highly consistent performers, typically achieving efficiencies of 300–400% even in the coldest months.

Ground source heat pumps are generally more efficient than air source systems and produce lower running costs over their lifetime, though they do require suitable outdoor space for the ground array. They're particularly well suited to rural properties, new builds, and larger homes where the investment can be offset against significant heating bills.

As with air source heat pumps, the government's Boiler Upgrade Scheme currently offers a £7,500 grant towards a qualifying GSHP installation. Direct Power manages the full electrical installation and coordinates closely with your ground works contractor to make sure the system is correctly sized, installed, and commissioned from the outset.

All electrical work is carried out by qualified, MCS-accredited electricians — a requirement for accessing the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant.
